The real reasons why kids don't listen to parents may not be what you think.  In fact, what we've discovered in our research is that children are less in control of their behaviors than we often think.  

Let me explain, the root of child behavior lies in the brain. For example, if the brain is balanced and healthy and not overly stimulated, then the child will behave calmy and listen attentively. However, if the child's nervous system is stressed by any kind of stimulation, then the brain itself may not function as best as it should... and the result can be what people have called a "naughty" or "bad behaved" child. But in fact it's a child who's brain is imbalanced by chemical influences in the hormonal system.

The mystery of child behavior is revealed in the science of the brain.  This is how it works...  

The C-Factor 

You know from your own experience that if you get into a stressful situation, you find yourself in a different emotional state. Well, what you may not know is that when you're stressed, the emotions cause your adrenal glands to release toxic hormones into your brain, called cortisol.

Our research over the years has discovered that what typically happens before a child misbehaves is that there is a sudden or gradual release of excessive amounts of cortisol into the brain. Cortisol is a stress related hormone. It is released by the adrenal glands in response to a stressful or overstimulating situation.

The problem is that cortisol has been found to be TOXIC to your brain cells in excessive amounts.  This causes a person's thinking to become impaired when they are emotionally upset or stressed. So when your child get's stressed or overstimulated, there is a release of excessive cortisol into their systems...

This will cause children to become hyperactive, defiant, argumentative, unfocussed, and even physically violent. Unfortunately, if this problem isn't addressed early on, the build up of toxic cortisol only gets worse... which can even lead to teenage delinquincy and sociopathic behaviors later in life.

Surprisingly, the real reason why most kids misbehave is in the child's brain chemistry. The C-Factor represents a combination of all the different stress-causing influences in a child's life that can cause a build up of the toxic hormone, Cortisol.  In fact the C-Factor is the synergistic effect of both the things that increase cortisol brain toxicity and also those things that decrease it.
